Human Rights Internship and Research Program
Position: Intern/volunteer
Location: Kathmandu
Enrollment: Round the year.
Salary: Unpaid
Nepal is in the peace process after decade-long Maoist
conflict. National and International human rights organizations are
actively watching and monitoring the rights situation in the
country. At the same time, we have launched an internship, volunteer
and research program in this field. We hope that it can help the
eager students or professionals to gain exciting experience and
knowledge in the field of human rights in a conflict-affected third
world country.
Program:
Intern/volunteer will spend the first week after joining the
Internship Nepal (IN) generally in familiarization activities. On
the second week, he/she will work at an NGO, INGO or other
organization to know issues and simultaneously develop ideas for
news, features, research work related to human rights.
IN may ask intern/volunteer to submit brief periodical reports,
outlining his/her works and professional achievement, so that he/she
could be assigned for writing on appropriate issues in a more
relevant perspective. It is published in a human rights media which
is our partner organization.
However, such a report may not always be deemed necessary,
especially when intern/volunteer is in regular touch, briefing their
works orally to the IN team.
After being familiar with the issues and situation, he/she may also
choose to work for IN directly with us. Normally, this phase is
after one month. When they work directly with IN they will write
news, feature or take photos of events for the media.
If they feel comfortable while working for us through a third
organization, they may also choose to continue working in the above
schedule.
